Roots of Faith — Memorial Tree Mural

Created for Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Wilmington, North Carolina, this large-scale interior mural was designed to honor the church’s history, growth, and enduring community.

The central live oak symbolizes strength, foundation, and continued growth, with its expansive roots representing the generations and individuals who helped shape the church over time. The composition incorporates a representation of the original wooden church, cardinals, butterflies, daffodils, and memorial elements throughout the lower portion of the design.

The existing doorway was incorporated directly into the composition, requiring the tree trunk, branches, and root system to be carefully planned around the architecture of the wall. The finished mural creates a peaceful, uplifting focal point while leaving room for memorial plaques to be added as the church continues to honor members of its community.
